The Department of Mining and Metallurgy was divided into two separate departments: Department of Mining and Department of Metallurgy (The Department of Mining later became the Department of Earth Resource Engineering) |
| 1961 | The Department of Metallurgy formed the new Department of Metal Science and Technology |
| 1994 | Through restructuring, the Departments of Metallurgy and of Metal Science and Technology were transformed into the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Department of Energy Science and Technology. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is collaborating with the School of Engineering Science in providing the Materials Science Course. |
The Department of Materials Science is currently flying high as a Center of Excellence (COE) for materials science research.
