History

1957  The Department of Nuclear Engineering at Kyoto University was established as one of the oldest Nuclear Engineering graduate programs in Japan.
1958  The Department of Nuclear Engineering was also started as an undergraduate program with an intake of twenty fresh students.
1994  The Department of Nuclear Engineering and six other undergraduate programs in the Faculty of Engineering have been integrated into the newly established Department of Engineering Science. Instructors specializing in nuclear engineering are mainly responsible for lectures and research of the Nuclear Engineering Sub-Course, Energy Engineering Science Course.
1996  As a result of reorganization, four research sections of the Research Reactor Institute take partial charge of education as cooperative research sections of the department.
1999  The Quantum Science and Engineering Center was established as a research laboratory in the Graduate School of Engineering. The center is in close cooperation with the department and is also a cooperative research section.
