History

The predecessor of the current Applied Energy Engineering Sub-course was the Department of Energy Science and Engineering of the Graduate School of Engineering, which was established in 1994 as a world-leading institution to seek solutions to energy/environment-related problems. As a result of the reorganization of the Faculty of Engineering in 1996, along with the University's policy of placing higher priority on graduate school education, the present system was adopted in which basic education is provided in the Applied Energy Engineering Sub-course under the Energy Science and Engineering Course, the School of Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering, and more specialized education and research opportunities are provided in the Graduate School of Energy Science. Subsequently, many universities both inside and outside Japan began to set up energy-related graduate schools, undergraduate schools, departments and courses. Our Applied Energy Engineering Sub-course has the longest history and the largest number of graduates.
